Family medicine scholarship opportunity
The deadline to apply for the Pisacano Leadership Foundation (PLF) scholarships is May 4, 2024. The Pisacano Scholars Leadership program seeks to advance family medicine by providing well-educated, community-minded leaders in primary care.
The program is designed to provide educational programs, leadership training, and funding. Scholars are expected to attend annual leadership skills development symposia organized by PLF each year. Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding medical students for four years. Students who have made a commitment to the field of family medicine and who will enter their fourth year in medical school in the fall of 2024 may apply.

“Tip of the Month” from the Career Advising Student Advisory Board
As you’re finalizing fourth-year schedules, here are a few things to consider!
- If you are considering/exploring various specialties, make sure you schedule them early (spring, early summer)! You can always save neurology and emergency medicine for last if you don’t think you’ll pursue them as a career
- If you’re going into a competitive specialty or want to go to a competitive program, these upcoming months need to be really strategic (research, Step 2 score, extracurriculars), so talk with your specialty career advisor (https://education.uwmedicine.org/career-advising/specialty-guides/)
- If your specialty recommends away rotations, take time over break to look at VSLO, their FAQs, and how Away rotations work, including scholarships advertised at certain programs.
