Apply for the Governance Committee

You have until tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 25, to apply as a student representative in the clinical phases with the UWSOM Governance Committee.

Decisions impacting the curriculum and your student experience are voted on in these committees.  This is a great opportunity for you to get involved and share your unique perspective as a clinical phase student. You can learn more in this document about the Governance Committee

Open seats include:

Patient Care Phase Committee:

  • One student who has completed the Patient Care Phase via traditional clerkships.
  • One student who has completed the Patient Care Phase via the WWAMI Track program.
  • One student who has completed the Patient Care Phase via a Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC): (i.e., Olympia LIC, WWAMI Rural Integrated Training Experience (WRITE), or Targeted Rural Underserved Track (TRUST)).

Explore & Focus Phase Committee: Three students who have completed the Patient Care Phase.

Program Evaluation & Assessment Committee (PEAC): One student in the clinical phase.

The Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society Fall ‘Senior’ election will be held in early September. AOA is a national medical honor society in which election is based on a commitment to scholarship, leadership, professionalism, and service. You can learn more about the organization locally on the UW Chapter of AOA website.

ICYMI: Aug. 29 online webinar for URM students and allies about the coming Match and UW residencies

The University of Washington’s Network of Underrepresented Residents & Fellows (UW NURF) and Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) cordially invites URM students and/or allies to participate in its two-hour Virtual Diversity Recruitment Town Hall.

When: Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023

Time: 5 p.m. AK, 6 p.m. PT, 7 p.m. MT

This event welcomes prospective applicants from underrepresented/disadvantaged backgrounds and allies with the goal to introduce them to University of Washington programs. The goal is to spark interest in UWSOM’s outstanding residency and fellowship programs in preparation for the interview season.

Leaders of UW organizations involved in resident affairs will give you a preview of  residents’ and fellows’ experience and answer some of the most popular questions. There will also be specialty-specific Zoom sessions at the end of the event for you to interact with residents and faculty in the programs that most interest you.

Career advisors will be available to answer your quick questions. In advance, please review the application resources for your application system and the June 30th Residency Planning Season newsletter called Step by Step Through ERAS.

Have your Curriculum Vitae (CV) or residency application reviewed by Career Advising before application deadlines

Aug. 25 and Sept. 8 are your opportunities before residency application deadlines to have your CV or a PDF of your residency application reviewed by Career Advising during a CV group session. Click this link to register – space is limited.

If you plan to have your residency application reviewed, download a PDF of your application from the application system and upload that document at the time of booking a CV Group Review Session. Note: your residency application should be built from your CV – the experiences listed on your application should be in the same format as they are listed on your CV – use the CV template and resources on our website.

In advance of the session a Career Advisor will review your CV and provide personalized feedback. During the group session, we will address common themes for improvement and answer your questions.

All sessions are virtual and start at 11 a.m. AK, noon PT and 1 p.m. MT. Open to all students. Instructions for how to prepare are given at the time of registration. Register now.

ICYMI: First-in-family college grads sought for hourlong interview; $50 gift card incentive

A group of UW medical education researchers would like to interview fourth-year UWSOM medical students who are the first in their family to graduate college (FiF), about their noncurricular activities.
