Message from Financial Aid

A message from the Financial Aid team: If your aid is on hold because your clerkships have not started and your aid will fully cover tuition once it is disbursed, Financial Aid will make sure you do not get charged a late payment fee.  If your aid will partially cover tuition, you should pay the amount that aid will not cover.  Let the team know if you have any questions:  somfao@uw.edu.

MSA Travel Grant deadline is Feb. 2

The Medical Student Association (MSA) Travel Grant supports medical students attending a regional, national or international conference by paying for conference registration, fees or airfare.

Students may receive one travel grant per academic year (July-June) and may only apply for one grant per application cycle (August and January). Students are typically notified within one month of the application deadline, pending MSA review. More information is available online here. Please note, due to the high volume of travel grant applications received, not all submissions are guaranteed an award.

All submissions must be submitted electronically by completing this form.

WHEN: The current application window is through Thursday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m. AK, 5 p.m. PT and 6 p.m. MT.

All awards must be submitted for payment or reimbursement processing by Wednesday, April 19.

WHO: Any UWSOM student may apply for the award.

HOW: Applications can be completed on this survey: Student Conference Travel Award Application.

ICYMI A reminder about documenting clinical encounters

As a reminder, all students currently in their Patient Care or Explore & Focus phases will be required to log all required clinical encounters lists for their required Patient Care and Explore and Focus clerkships in eValue. Please remember to log your clinical encounters under the “UWA, .Clinical Encounters”  program in eValue (That may look a little strange with the comma and period, but that is how the menu item appears in eValue). You will not be logging under the department you have your rotation in. The “UWA, .Clinical Encounters”  program should be listed at the top when you log into eValue:

Information and instructions on how to log your clinical encounters for your Patient Care and Explore and Focus Required Clerkships in eValue can be found on this site: https://education.uwmedicine.org/curriculum/by-phase/clinical/patient-care/clinical-encounters/ [education.uwmedicine.org]

Please remember that while you may encounter a diagnosis on the list multiple times throughout your clerkship, you only need to log ONE instance for each diagnosis. Additionally, you can log multiple encounters for one patient if they have multiple diagnoses on the list.

Please make sure when you are logging an encounter that you are recording only requirements for the clerkships you are currently participating in. Please do not log other department’s diagnoses under the current clerkship you are enrolled for. Please watch this video for clarification.

Encounters should be logged by the last day of your clerkship. Feel free to reach out to somclrk@uw.edu if you have any questions.

In case you missed it, here is the previous newsletter for MS4s.

Have a great week!
