Due to the uncertainty of availability in the 2021-2022 Academic Year because of COVID-19, accepted Track students will not be guaranteed a full 24 weeks in Patient Care or 12 weeks in Explore & Focus. SOM will do its best to ensure students can spend as close to 24 or 12 weeks respectively in their Track site, but please be aware it will likely be less and take this into consideration when applying.
The WWAMI Track program allows a select group of students to be scheduled for a minimum number of weeks (24 weeks for Patient Care Phase*, 12 weeks for the Explore & Focus Phase*) in one specific city or state in the WWAMI region. Medical students must participate in an application process whereby selected students are matched to Track sites to fulfill their third- or fourth-year required clerkships.
If a student does not complete the requirements of Track due to expansion or leave of absence, and wishes to continue in Track, they are required to re-apply for the program to which they were initially accepted, during the next application cycle.
Patient Care Phase (Third-Year) Tracks
Patient Care Phase Track students are scheduled to complete a minimum of 24 weeks* of required clerkships at their Track location. Time spent at the Track site may not be consecutive.
Explore & Focus Phase (Fourth-Year) Tracks
Explore & Focus Phase has one city-based track in:
Students in an Explore & Focus Phase Track are scheduled to complete a minimum of 12 weeks* at their regional site, to include required Emergency Medicine, required Neurology, and one non-permission elective. For each of the Explore & Focus Track regions, there are a limited number of non-permission electives available. Time spent in a Track site may not be consecutive. Additional weeks at a Track site may require students to request permission from associated departments for a number of regional clerkships in order to build their schedules.
