WWAMI Track Program

The 2024-2025 Track Applications are CLOSED

The WWAMI Track program allows a selected group of students to be registered for a set number of weeks (24 weeks for the Patient Care Phase, and 12 weeks for the Explore & Focus Phase) at a specific city or area throughout the WWAMI region. Track is the best option for students whose preference is to maximize time in one location. Students in Track will still be expected to travel throughout the WWAMI region when they are not scheduled at their Track site. Track students are not guaranteed any additional time at their Track site beyond the 24 weeks in Patient Care and the 12 weeks in Explore & Focus.

Students must participate in an application process for each phase, and students that are accepted must then either accept or decline placement at their Track site.  Please see below for additional requirements and information for each clinical phase.

WWAMI Track space is limited. Admission to a Track is limited to the clinical academic year to which a student applied.

Please see Track FAQ for specific questions related to the Program.  All students applying to Track must acknowledge that they have read through the FAQ and understand the limitations of Track.

TRACK FAQ

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Clerkships at Track sites may not be consecutive.
  • Students that do not complete the requirements of a Track due to an expansion or leave of absence will be required to re-apply during the next application cycle if they wish to continue in Track.
  • Patient Care Phase Track students are not automatically entered into Track for their Explore & Focus Phase and must apply for an E&F Track spot if interested.
  • If you are considering applying to an Emergency Medicine residency program, you must take MED EM 606 for your required EM rotation at HMC/UWMC in Seattle, and therefore should not apply for an Explore & Focus Track, since your EM rotation must be scheduled at your Track site. For additional details about the residency requirement, please contact the Department of Emergency Medicine. Due to availability limitations, we are unable to offer exceptions.
  • Idaho is a statewide Track (for both Patient Care and Explore & Focus) so you can expect to take at least one clerkship outside of the Boise/Treasure Valley area.
  • The Bozeman, MT Patient Care Track may include Helena sites.

For additional details, please contact the Department of Emergency Medicine.

The only students who are guaranteed additional time at a particular site beyond what is granted for Track are those with disability-related location accommodations from UW DRS (Disability Resources for Students). Deadlines for UW DRS location accommodation requests apply and are typically well before the start of the clerkship scheduling process; contact DRS for more information. If you feel you have extenuating circumstances (such as anticipated birth of a child, or terminal family illness), you may reach out to Student Affairs to discuss options including temporary leave of absence.

If you plan to apply for Track and are working with Disability Resources for Students (DRS) or Student Affairs to spend additional time in a location beyond what is allotted for Track you do not have to provide accommodation details in your application.  Students should simply indicate if they are working with one of these departments.
