LCME Weekly Update: Understanding Required Data Sources for DCI Compliance

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement and accreditation standards, this week’s update highlights the data sources required by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) Data Collection Instrument (DCI).

The DCI is a comprehensive tool used in the accreditation process to assess how well a medical school meets LCME standards. To ensure compliance, a variety of data sources must be collected, analyzed, and reported. These sources include, but are not limited to:

  • Curriculum Management Data: Information on medical education program objectives, instructional methods, assessment tools, and educational outcomes.
  • Student Performance Data: Metrics such as exam scores, graduation rates, and residency match results.
  • Faculty Information: Faculty appointments, scholarly activities, and professional development.
  • Resource Allocation: Data on facilities and learning resources.
  • Student Support Services: Information on advising, career counseling, and mental health services.
  • Student Survey Data: Results from the AAMC Graduation Questionnaire, End-of-Block and Clerkship Evaluations, and the Independent Student Analysis Survey.

Accurate and comprehensive data collection is essential for maintaining accreditation and ensuring the delivery of a high-quality medical education. Your collaboration—whether through providing requested information or engaging in surveys—is vital to this process.

Ongoing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) efforts based on this data are underway, with updates shared through emails to cohorts, student newsletters, and EQI CQI Spotlights. Please stay engaged with these communications for more detailed reports.
