Continuous Quality Improvement team hosts survey event and prep for the Physicians Oath and Hooding Ceremony

Date: Tuesday, May 21, 2024
Time: 11:30 a.m. PT
Location: Hogness Auditorium, UW Seattle campus

The Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) team congratulates graduating MS4s on wrapping up your medical school journey and moving on to residency! We have an important session coming up, and we need your participation. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Survey Completion: We’ll start with a five-minute reminder about the importance of completing our internal survey, the Graduation Questionnaire (GQ) and the Milestone data consent form described below. Your feedback is crucial for improving our programs and maintaining accreditation. Snacks will be provided.
  2. In-Room Survey Opportunity: If you haven’t completed the surveys yet, you’ll have the chance to do so in the room.
  3. Graduation Tickets and Stoles Distribution: After completing both surveys, you can collect your Physicians Oath and Hooding Ceremony tickets and stoles. If you’ve already completed the surveys, you can exit the room and collect your items immediately.
  4. UW School of Medicine Alumni Association: The alumni association would love to stay connected with you after graduation. Please visit their table to update your contact info, pick up some swag, and enjoy a treat.

Please fill out this consent form so we can improve our curriculum

Here is a message for graduating MS4s from Matthew Cunningham, PhD, director of educational evaluation: Congratulations on being about to embark on residency! I’m writing to ask for your help again providing feedback to UWSOM.

Each residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) records annual Milestone ratings for their residents. The Milestones are formative assessments of your progress during residency.

As part of providing feedback to medical schools, ACGME currently releases individual, de-identified Milestone ratings from the end of intern year. These ratings allow us to compare the performance of UWSOM graduates to residents nationally for each specialty. However, we cannot currently match Milestone ratings with individual student records because the data is de-identified.

We’re asking you to complete a consent form letting us know whether you agree to let ACGME provide your *identified* Milestone data to UWSOM. With this identified data, we will better be able to determine which aspects of our curriculum contribute the most to success in residency. This data will only be used by UWSOM faculty/staff for quality improvement. Your individual identified Milestone data will never be released publicly; it would only ever be released in de-identified, aggregated form to the UWSOM community.

Please complete the (very brief) consent form here:

Feel free to email me with any questions. Thank you for your help, and good luck in the future!

Update about the AAMC Graduation Questionnaire

From Sara Kim, Ph.D., research professor, surgery, associate dean for Educational Quality Improvement: You helped us reach 60 percent participation, up 2 percentage points from last week. The national participation rate is 71 percent. Thank you to all of you who took the time to complete the survey. Please find the survey link emailed to you Wednesday, May 14 by AAMC, gq@aamc.org.

As you read above, we are allotting time for you to complete the survey during the Transition to Residency on Tuesday, May 21.

Here are the campuses with increases in the response rates: Alaska (68 percent, up 5 percentage points), Montana (83 percent, up 3) and Seattle (46 percent, up 2). Remaining the same as the last week are Idaho (84 percent), Wyoming (65 percent) and Spokane (50 percent).

Please refer to the table below that specifies how $20 gift cards will be raffled based on the size of each campus-based cohort. We will draw names when the survey closes. It’s important that you keep the receipt issued by AAMC to receive the gift card (or you can forward it to eqi@uw.edu if you would like us to keep it in case your name is drawn).
