MS4 Class Information – March 28, 2024

New surveys ask for your attention, please

Please consider supporting UWSOM students by completing the Paying it Forward – Programs Survey. Many of you have told us that you benefited from Career Advising’s residency interviews and Match data when you were creating your residency program lists. Your input will strengthen UWSOM data to provide evidence-based, specialty-specific advising for future students. Your data will only be shared in aggregate, without student identifiers.

This is always optional. The survey will be open until April 30.

Please consider being a resource for future UWSOM students by adding your name to the Residents in Medicine (RIM) Directory. On Monday afternoon March 4, you received an email from with the subject line, Join: Residents in Medicine Directory and a Qualtrics survey link.

Adding your name to the directory allows students to contact you about your residency program, specialty, career paths and the residency application process in general. Please consider completing the optional identity-based questions so that students of underrepresented identities can easily connect with residents with similar identities.

Please participate in a survey about managing behavioral emergencies, related to your upcoming Transition to Residency later this year

This request comes from Clinton Olivas, M.D., a UWSOM internal medicine resident, who is working with faculty member Vincent Raikhel, M.D., on a medical curriculum about managing inpatient behavioral emergencies such as “Code Gray” responses at UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center.

This 5- to 10-minute survey asks about your experiences, knowledge and perspectives around this topic.

“The team is planning to have their first session on this topic as part of your Transition to Residency course later this year, with live simulated environments for you to practice key skills. Your input is essential for our ongoing development of this session, as we want to highlight what would be most helpful to you all – we deeply appreciate your participation,” Dr. Olivas said.

Update on your GQ survey

Here is a message from Sara Kim, Ph.D., research professor, surgery, associate dean for Educational Quality Improvement:

Our school’s response rate to the AAMC Graduation Questionnaire is 38 percent (vs. 50 percent nationally). A huge accolade to the Wyoming students with a 15-percentage point jump (now at 50 percent) followed by a 14-percentage point jump in the Alaska class (whose participation rate is now 45 percent). The good news is all cohorts have reached or exceeded the 30 percent mark including Montana (52 percent), Idaho (43 percent), Spokane (35 percent), and Seattle (30 percent). With the match behind you, could you consider carving out some time to complete the survey? Thank you!

We are offering exciting incentives this year in pursuit of our goal of an 85 percent response. Please refer to the table below that specifies how $20 gift cards will be raffled based on the size of each campus-based cohort. We will draw names when the survey closes.

It’s important that you keep the receipt issued by AAMC to receive the gift card, or, you can forward your receipt to  if you would like us to keep it in case your name is drawn.

Campus # of Gift Cards ($20) raffled if Campus Response Rates Reach 60% TOTAL # of $20 Gift Cards if Campus Response Rates Reach 85% If Campus Response Rates Reach 100%
