Update: Four Colleges in Seattle, and news about new College heads
In July 2024, the Colleges program on the Seattle campus will shift from two Colleges (Olympic and Cascade) to four Colleges. New names will be announced in Spring.
The Colleges team has been piloting four Colleges this year (with “elements”) and that model has been successful in creating smaller cohorts for community building and learning – so we are making it official!
“As part of this change, UWSOM is proud to be welcoming two outstanding new College Heads who will join Tomoko Sairenji, M.D., and Breana “Bre” Taylor, M.D., as leaders of the Seattle Colleges program,” said Molly Jackson, M.D., assistant dean for the Colleges.
Gaby Berger, M.D., clinical associate professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine. Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Berger went to medical school at Emory University and completed residency in Internal Medicine at UCSF before joining the faculty at UW in 2013.
She is a primary care provider at the UWMC-General Internal Medicine Clinic (Roosevelt Clinic) and has been an associate program director for the IM Residency Program. Dr. Berger has served as College faculty in Cascade College for five years and is particularly interested in professional identity formation, cultivating safe and inclusive learning spaces, and mentorship.
Abir “Abby” Hussein, M.D., clinical assistant professor in the Division of Allergy & Infectious Disease, and associate medical director of Infection Prevention.
Dr. Hussein is an M.D. graduate of University of Miami and IM residency graduate of University of Colorado. She completed fellowship at UW in Allergy & Infectious Diseases in 2021, along with an Master’s in Public Health. Dr. Hussein has been a member of the College faculty in Olympic College for three years. She is passionate about clinical infectious disease work and medical education and mentorship as well as improving diversity, equity, and inclusion both in the hospital and in academia. In her spare time, she likes to ballroom dance, sing, do arts & crafts, and explore the food scene.
