Dear MS1s, MS2s and MS3s,
MS4s are currently working very hard on their residency applications. Most applications are due by Sept. 28. This means that the career advisors are extremely busy meeting with MS4s in August and September. We ask MS1s, MS2s and MS3s to please try to wait to schedule with a career advisor until Sept. 30. This ensures that MS4s have priority to book the appointments they need for their application reviews.
If you have an urgent career planning question, please email medadv@uw.edu and a career advisor will get back to you.

Seattle volunteer opportunity
The Office of Healthcare Equity is looking for early rising volunteers who’d be willing to help at the PNW African American Male Wellness Walk in Renton on Aug. 6.
UW Medicine and Valley Medical Center will be running the health screening stations for participants checking blood pressure, pulse, cholesterol/hba1c/blood sugar, and heart rate on attendees. This is a great opportunity for our medical students to get out into the community, notes Priscilla Estrada, Community and Workforce Engagement Specialist, Office of Healthcare Equity.
The team is in need of volunteers to help support the health screening stations, help attendees fill out paperwork, etc., she said.
Schedule: 6 a.m. volunteer arrival (Screenings will be done prior to the walk starting at 7 a.m.). The event ends at noon.

Career Advising Student Advisory Board Tip of the Month
If you’re still exploring, consider setting up shadowing or research (even short case reports) within specialties you might like. Step 1 dedicated and clinical rotations come quickly, and you won’t have much time for these things once they start. Use your AAMC CIM interest assessment as a launch for shadowing especially if you are interested in specialties outside the third-year core clerkships.
