Patient sim lab video
We recently filmed video of a patient simulation lab so we could provide the recording to TV stations interested in medical students. A portion of the video can be seen during the recent KING TV report about primary care.
We thought you might enjoy seeing the whole video as well as some still images. You can find them here. Because the video is designed for TV stations to talk over, there is no sound. But perhaps it will help you relive some memories!
Still time to take the survey for MS2s
You too could have the chance to win prizes worth up to $50
A message from Sara Kim, Associate Dean for Educational Quality Improvement: Thank you for continuing to help raise the survey response rate. We are at 57.1 percent this week, an increase of 6 percentage points over the past week! This means we are 23 percentage points away from our desired goal of 80 percent. I thank each of you for your time. I’m counting on the rest of you for help. If you haven’t already, please fill out the survey this week.
Here is the regional campus breakdown for this past week. Wyoming students, you did it! You are the first campus to meet the 80 percent mark. Congratulations! Next, the Montana class raised the response rate to 66.7 percent ( up 10 percentage points over last week and the largest one-week jump), followed by Alaska, 63.2 percent ( up 5.3 percentage points), Spokane, 57.6 percent (up 6.8 percentage points), Idaho, 52.5 percent (up 7.5 percentage points), and Seattle, 50 percent (up three percentage points over last week). This means all six campuses have met or exceeded the 50 percent mark. I thank you.
The survey link was directly emailed to you. Please know that your email address is only used for tracking and incentive purposes; your responses are anonymous.

Career Advising Student Advisory Board Tip of the Month
For many of you, rotations have started! Watch this 2-part video series on how you can lay the foundation for your residency application during the Patient Care Phase. Video 1: 13 minutes shows you to use clinical rotations to explore and Video 2: 8 minutes go over MS3 career planning and the residency application timeline.

Specialty exploration and residency planning during third-year clerkship videos
The Career Advising team is happy to provide a new resource – two short videos to help you think through specialty exploration and residency planning during 3rd year clerkships.
- How to effectively use your 3rd year to explore and choose your specialty, understand the importance of parallel planning, strengthen your professional network and lay the foundation for residency, allowing you to navigate Patient Care Phase with specialty exploration and career decision making in mind.
- Reviews career exploration and residency application timelines, how to leverage your elective off block, and discusses your advising support team.
In addition to these videos, we recommend you review and bookmark our website, specifically the Choosing a Career section, which is full of resources such as a Career Planning Timeline. The Guide to Residency Application Process is useful to understand what lies ahead, and the Letters of Recommendation page provides advice on asking for letters.
If you have questions about your Step 1, how to use your elective block, and/or your specialty interests, please schedule an appointment or visit during our office hours (M-Th, 12-1pm PT via Zoom) https://uw-phi.zoom.us/j/761975716. We welcome you to reach out anytime. We are here to support you.
