Apply now for the Washington Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Scholars

Applications are due by Oct. 15, 2024, to join the Washington AHEC Scholars, a free interprofessional training program that offers graduates a nationally recognized certificate that you can put on your CV.

AHEC Scholars is a two-year education and training program with the goal of supporting a diverse cohort of health professions students with an interest in working with rural and underserved communities. The team will provide you with skills and experiences to better prepare you to serve patients faced with barriers to healthcare access.

Learn much more about the program in this announcement.

Webinar available about new scheduling tool

Students wishing to add or drop electives have a new method for doing so that was described in last week’s newsletter. A webinar was held to explain the new process, and you can access it here.

Survey update: Now at 56% – the goal is 90%

A message from Sara Kim, PhD, research professor, surgery, and associate dean for Educational Quality Improvement (EQI):

Thank you to everyone who helped raise the Spring survey response rate from 49% to 56%.

This week’s accolade goes to Wyoming (70%) with an increase in the response rate by 15 percentage points! Tying the overall response rates are Alaska (70%, up 10) and Montana (70%, up 3), followed by Idaho (69%, up 8), Gonzaga (57%, up 11), and Seattle (40%, up 2).

The email link was sent last Tuesday, July 30, 2024, to those who haven’t completed the survey yet. Your survey input matters for the school’s accreditation and ongoing continuous quality improvement. We thank you for 10 mins of your time.

Please see the incentive breakdown by campus in the table below. You can choose to use your gift card with different vendors such as Amazon, Apple, Uber Eats, and many other stores, restaurants and movie theatres!

Campus # of Gift Cards ($10) if Campus Response Rates Reach 60% Additional # of Gift Cards ($10) if Campus Response Rates Reach 85% If Campus Response Rates Reach 100%

Peer to Peer: Road to Residency Tip of the Month

Explore and Focus scheduling comes up pretty quickly in the fall for MS3s. Start looking in the Explore & Focus Clerkship Catalog  soon to see what  options might be possible, and also talk to students ahead of you to learn about their experiences and get advice BEFORE the scheduling process begins. Watch Career Advising’s session last month on Early Career Planning for the Explore & Focus Phase and/or see the slide deck for a preview of 4th year career planning steps in the next six months.

The Guide to 4th Year Planning website has all the information in one place to help you understand how to plan your upcoming Explore & Focus phase. The Explore & Focus Clerkships website is a great resource to learn about electives, APCs and Sub-Is.
