It’s time to preference for Non-Permission Explore & Focus courses!
Attention MS3 students entering the Explore and Focus (E&F) portion of the curriculum in Spring 2024: Submit your E&F clerkship preferences for non-permission courses using eValue Optimization Scheduling (EVOS) before the deadline.
EVOS is an automated process that simultaneously considers your clerkship preferences, your classmates’ clerkship preferences, and site availability to create the best possible E&F schedules for everyone.
Preferencing for non-permission courses opened: Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023
Preferencing for non-permission courses closes: Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, at 10 a.m. AK, 11 a.m., PT, Noon MT.
This is not first-come, first-served course selection. It does not matter when you enter and submit your preferences as long as you do so within the timeframe above.

ICYMI: AAMC fee assistance program will expand to include 60 percent ERAS discount
The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has decided to extend their AAMC Fee Assistance Program to residency applicants using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
Beginning with the 2024-2025 ERAS application season, the program will expand to include residency applicants who were previously approved for the Fee Assistance Program benefits during their medical school application process. These qualifying applicants will automatically receive a 60 percent fee discount on up to 50 ERAS applications, which AAMC says will significantly alleviate the financial burden associated with the application process.

ICYMI: Clinical research summer externship available
The Robert A. Winn Clinical Investigator Pathway Program (Winn CIPP) for medical students is designed to increase diversity in clinical trials and transform the clinical research landscape.
Winn CIPP is a 6-week intensive and immersive summer service-learning externship that provides medical students who are underrepresented in medicine (URiM) and/or from a disadvantaged background with opportunities to experience and participate in clinical research conducted in community-based clinical research settings.

“Tip of the Month” from the Career Advising Student Advisory Board
As you know, third year is busy! Something you can do to thank your future self is to update your CV whenever you have some downtime (e.g., month off, “chill” rotation). Having a solid CV is necessary for away rotation applications that you’ll be preparing in the Winter for applying in the Spring. You’ll use this info almost word-for-word in ERAS when you’re applying.
Check out the CV page for videos and the CV template. As you are mapping out fourth year, use the Clinical Phase Planning Worksheet from Career Advising’s 4th Year Career Planning webpage. Then be sure to meet with your career advisor in November and December to go over specialty choice(s), if away rotations are expected/suggested, and discuss Visting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) – so you can start looking at away rotations and scholarships over winter break!!!
Read the Specialty Guides for your specialties and use the Course Catalog to see which Sub-Is, APCs, and electives you might want to take in fourth year.
