Register by Friday, April 19, for the Physician’s Oath & Hooding Ceremony

The Physician’s Oath and Hooding Ceremony is the acknowledgment by the School of Medicine of the completion of your medical training. At the ceremony, you will be invested with your doctoral hood and recite the Physician’s Oath. Attendance at the UWSOM Physician’s Oath & Hooding Ceremony is optional.

All graduates (including those who are not planning to attend) must complete the registration form so that staff can plan accordingly. Please complete the following form before 11 a.m. AK, noon PT, and 1 p.m. MT on Friday, April 19: https://forms.office.com/r/56yj1U6aji.

Meanwhile, here is the link to a resource from UW for students who may wish to invite family from overseas.

Important information about residency paperwork, final transcripts and diplomas

If you are graduating in June 2024, the following documents will be useful.

You may have already received requests from your residency program for forms, transcripts, diploma copies, or letters verifying your expected graduation. These documents explain the timeline, give direction on how to request the most common types of documents, and answer some FAQs about this paperwork.

Because documents and instructions vary by state and program, it is especially important that you read the instructions carefully or you might not be able to start your residency on time.

For questions and instructions about what documents are needed and where to send them: Contact your residency program. For questions about how to complete requests for documents: somreg@uw.edu

ICYMI: Consider participating in a professional identity formation focus group that could help improve curriculum and student support

MS4s, have you been thinking about your professional journey?  Researchers would love your feedback on a new framework for professional identity formation in a 30- to 45-minute Zoom focus group with a non-UW facilitator. This study of how medical students come to internalize professional values and come to think, feel, and act like a physician is being conducted by Jennifer Quaintance, Ph.D., a University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine faculty member, and Maya Sardesai, M.D., UWSOM assistant dean for student development.

Your feedback could help future curriculum design and structures for student support.  Thanks for considering this! If you are interested, please email Dr. Quaintance at quaintancej@umkc.edu for more information.

Update on your GQ survey

Here is a message from Sara Kim, Ph.D., research professor, surgery, associate dean for Educational Quality Improvement: Thank you very much for raising the school’s response rate to 34 percent, a 5-percentage point increase from the past week. The national rate is 43 percent. We want to give a shout out to our Alaska students who raised their response rate from 18 percent to 32 percent in a week. Montana cohort reached 52 percent followed by Idaho (38 percent), Wyoming (35 percent), Spokane (32 percent) and Seattle (28 percent).

We are offering exciting incentives this year in pursuit of our goal of an 85 percent response. Please refer to the table below that specifies how $20 gift cards will be raffled based on the size of each campus-based cohort. We will draw names when the survey closes. It’s important that you keep the receipt issued by AAMC to receive the gift card (or you can forward it to eqi@uw.edu if you would like us to keep it in case your name is drawn).

SURVEY INCENTIVES

To find the survey link, please look for an email sent by AAMC (gq@aamc.org).

AAMC Loan Workshop: As described above, on Thursday, March 28, AAMC will offer an online exit interview/loan repayment webinar that may be helpful in your response to the GQ survey. If you plan to attend this webinar, please take the survey after the session. If you are not planning to attend the webinar, please take the survey now.

Thank you so much for your time and input into the survey!
