The purpose of the strategic plan is to guide the University of Washington School of Medicine forward in the coming years by outlining our mission, vision, core values, strategic goals, and signature initiatives. It is crucial that this plan is shaped by the diverse voices of our community members, including students, trainees, staff, and faculty.

Strategic Goals & Working Groups
We are establishing Working Groups to draft signature initiatives for the Strategic Plan that are grounded in the School’s mission, vision, and values. Working Groups will be formed based on nominations gathered from various UW constituencies. These Working Groups will engage our community and experts to develop signature initiatives for each goal. Check back soon as we will be listing the Working Group members for each of the following Strategic Goals:
Strategic Goal #1: Each of us feels valued, has a sense of belonging, and is supported on pathways for growth.
Strategic Goal #2: The School of Medicine and our clinical enterprise are seamlessly integrated to provide exceptional clinical care to all people.
Strategic Goal #3: Learning environments are inclusive and supportive, preparing learners to thrive in their chosen careers.
Strategic Goal #4: Research excellence drives inquiry and discoveries, advancing equitable prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease worldwide.
Strategic Goal #5: Equity, diversity, inclusion, and well-being are centered in everything we do.

Working Groups will engage our community and experts to develop signature initiatives for each goal. This process will run until March 2025.

The Dean of the UW School of Medicine and Chief Executive Officer of UW Medicine, Timothy H. Dellit, MD, and the UW School of Medicine Vice Deans have led the strategic planning process and involved students, trainees, staff, and faculty throughout the process to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach.

- How will the Strategic Plan impact me?
While not every goal will resonate with every member of our community, we hope that at least one (or more) will connect with each individual. Our aim is to make these goals actionable by cascading them down to departments and divisions, ensuring that they are relevant and impactful at every level of our organization. This approach allows us to tailor our strategic initiatives to the unique needs and priorities of each department, making the overall plan more meaningful and effective for everyone involved.

- What mechanisms are in place to ensure transparency and accountability in the strategic planning process?
To ensure transparency and accountability, we are establishing Working Groups for each strategic goal. Working Groups will be comprised of key community members who represent diverse sub-communities at the School of Medicine, such as research, clinical and education, and include the voices of staff, faculty, and learners. Regular updates will be provided on the Strategic Plan webpage and other venues. We also encourage ongoing feedback and participation from our community by submitting an idea for a signature initiative (a link is also located above), participating in an optional interview or focus group, or attending a future Strategic Planning town hall.
- How will the Strategic Plan be implemented and monitored?
The Strategic Plan will be implemented through the collaboration of Working Groups, community engagement, and the development of specific outcomes, tactics, and key performance indicators. Progress will be monitored regularly, and updates will be shared with our community on the Strategic Plan website.
