Temporary Testing Accommodations

We are aware that some students are waiting to have your intake appointment with Disability Resources for Students (DRS) at UW. Because of this wait time, we have been approved to implement the following temporary testing accommodations.

A UWSOM student who can provide evidence of a testing accommodation appointment with upper campus DRS will receive 50% more time for testing plus a reduced distraction environment until they have their meeting with DRS and for two weeks after said meeting, or until DRS makes a determination about your accommodations, whichever comes first.

Some things to note:

  1. You must forward your appointment confirmation email somtests@uw.edu to receive temporary accommodations. This appointment can only be secured once you have submitted all necessary materials to DRS. You will not receive temporary accommodations unless you have a confirmed appointment with DRS.
  2. For Monday exams, we must receive the appointment confirmation by noon Pacific time on the Thursday BEFORE the exam you’d like the accommodations to begin for. For example, if your test is Monday, August 19, we must receive the confirmation email by NOON PACIFIC TIME on Thursday August 15. Otherwise, they will be effective for the NEXT test.
  3. For Friday exams, we must receive the appointment confirmation by noon Pacific time on the Tuesday BEFORE the exam you’d like the accommodations to begin for. For example, if your test is Friday, August 16, we must receive the confirmation email by NOON PACIFIC TIME on Tuesday August 13. Otherwise, they will be effective for the NEXT test.
  4. These accommodations will AUTOMATICALLY cease two weeks after your scheduled DRS appointment listed in the materials you send us. They can be replaced with the DRS recommendations at that time. If you are NOT granted DRS accommodations, then these temporary accommodations will no longer be applicable.
  5. Please do not send us any documentation that lists any medical issues, any reference to your disability, or anything involving protected health information. All we need is a copy of your appointment confirmation. If said confirmation includes any of this information, please black it out or edit it out before you send it.
  6. At this time, we are only approved to offer the testing accommodations listed above.

Please reach out to somtests@uw.edu if you have any questions.
