Essential Requirements & Technical Standards Form (ERTS)
Deadline: March 31, 2025
This message is from Dr. Erik Malmberg and is intended for students who are entering or continuing in Patient Care Phase clerkships in AY 2025-26, or have previously entered in Patient Care Phase clerkships and we do not have documentation of your Acknowledgement of Review Form including students returning from a leave of absence.
If you have not entered Patient Care Phase clerkships in the past and are not entering one now please contact Dr. Malmberg (edmalm@uw.edu) so a review can be done to determine if you are eligible for an exemption.
You will need to complete the following:
- Review the Technical Standards Policy
- Review UW Executive Order on Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action and UW Medicine Policy on Professional Conduct
- Complete the Acknowledgement of Review Form by March 31, 2025. You first completed this document during your secondary application for the University of Washington School of Medicine. We are asking you to sign this form again because we want you to be aware and reminded of the expectations the school has of you as you move to your clinical training.
If you have a disability or developed a disability since beginning medical school, you are encouraged to access available resources. Please contact UW Disability Resources for Students (DRS) to request and receive accommodations or to update existing accommodations needed for your clinical training.
If you have questions or concerns, please see available options (conversations are kept confidential):
- Email adminsa@uw.edu to schedule an appointment, or
- Contact UW Disability Resources for Students (DRS) at uwdrs@uw.edu, or
- Call 206-543-8924.

Peer to Peer: Tip of the Month from Career Advising
This advice is for all students and includes first-generation and BIPOC student lenses.
Once you’re done with Step 1, review three short career advising videos on Specialty Exploration & Residency Planning During Patient Care Phase (PCP): Video 1 (15 minutes), Video 2 (7 minutes) and Video 3 (4 minutes).
If you have follow-up questions about PCP elective block time, specialty exploration, or residency programs, you can come to Career Advising’s Office Hours via Zoom, Mondays through Wednesdays, starting at 11 am AK, noon PT, 1 pm MT. The career advisors will be there to help you.
