AAMC Herbert W. Nickens Medical Student Scholarships 

Nominations are open for the 2026 Association of American Medical Colleges Herbert W. Nickens Medical Student Scholarships. UWSOM will nominate one student entering their third year in Fall 2026. Five $5,000 scholarships recognize leadership advancing equal opportunity in medical education and access to quality care for underserved communities. Recipients must attend Learn Serve Lead 2026 (November 6–10, 2026 in Anaheim; travel costs covered by AAMC). 

To be considered, email Andrea L. Walker (adminsa@uw.edu) by Monday, March 9 at 12 PM  PST with a 100–500 character statement and a list of leadership roles. The selected nominee should be prepared for an extensive application packet.

Career Advising Student Advisory Board Tip of the Month    

This advice is for all MS2 students and includes first generation and BIPOC student lenses.

Starting this month, the Career Advising team will start sending a quarterly Patient Care Phase Road to Residency Newsletter, which will walk you through important information about career and residency planning during this next phase of medical school.

If you have follow-up questions about Patient Care Phase elective block time, specialty exploration, or residency programs, you can come to Career Advising’s Office Hours via Zoom, Mondays through Wednesdays, starting at 11 AM AK,  12 PM  PT, 1 PM MT.

Please note: Career Advising will not offer Office Hours or advising appointments during Match/SOAP week (3/16-3/20) to support MS4s at this critical time.
