WEEK OF FEBRUARY 23, 2026

Dear Students,

March is a season of transition. Many of you are moving into clinically integrated learning in the Cardiovascular block, deep into dedicated Step 1 preparation with clerkships ahead, or looking toward Match Day. With so much on the horizon, we want to pause and ensure you are well prepared for the next phase.

Access to Your Academic Record

You should know how to access your academic record and understand your right to review and challenge it through the University of Washington.

Through accreditation processes and AAMC surveys, you shared that a reminder about this process would be helpful – thank you for that feedback.

You have immediate electronic access to most of your educational records, including grades and evaluations, through the Student Performance Dashboard. Official transcripts may be ordered through the UW Main Campus Transcript website.

Requests for additional records not available electronically are coordinated through the UW Registrar and the School of Medicine Records Unit. The SOM Registration team (somreg@uw.edu) can provide guidance regarding access to records.

Your Right to Review, Challenge, and Appeal

You have the right to review, challenge, and appeal grades and/or evaluation comments. The UWSOM Academic Grievance and Appeal Policy outlines a three-step process:

  1. Grade Review
  2. Grade Challenge
  3. Grade Appeal

We encourage you to familiarize yourself with this process so you understand your options should questions arise.

You Spoke — We Acted

We continue to incorporate student feedback and policy updates. To learn more, please review:

Your feedback directly shapes program improvements, and we are committed to transparency in how changes are made.

LCME Update

We are approximately 2 weeks away from the LCME accreditation site visit. I want to sincerely thank the many students who have contributed over the past two years by leading and completing the Independent Student Analysis survey, participating in Self-Study groups, meeting with site visitors, and supporting campus tours. We truly could not do this without you. Your voice is essential to strengthening our school.

I will share another update in March following the visit.

As you navigate this busy season, remember to take care of yourselves. Step outside, take a breath, and recognize the progress you’re making. We are proud of you and grateful for your engagement.
