Non-Clinical Elective Set-Up in UW Time Schedule
Non-Clinical Electives must be scheduled into the UW Time Schedule so that students can register and receive credit(s) for the course. The UW Time Schedule, commonly known as the course catalog, lists credit classes offered at the University of Washington – Seattle.
Some Departments will have a designated Time Schedule Coordinator to help with scheduling in the UW Time Schedule. Otherwise, these responsibilities falls to the Faculty or Course Administrator. Please reach out to times@uw.edu if you do not already have access to the UW Time Schedule Construct and Maintenence Systems.
Please reach out to us through somnce@uw.edu for any additional questions or concerns.
The Time Schedule Construction System is used for adding courses to the Time Schedule during the construction period. This is the best way to set up your courses and avoid issues with grade submissions.
- Once courses are entered into the Time Schedule Construction, the course information will roll over each year until you change or delete it.
- Time Schedule Construction Deadlines are found yearly in the UW Time Schedule Production Calendar.
For general guidance on adding NCEs to the UW Time Schedule, please view the Time Schedule User’s Guide for Non-Clinical Electives document.
You can also make changes or add a course to the Time Schedule after the construction deadline has passed. Changes can be made one of two ways:
- Time Schedule Update System – Use for minor changes such as adjusting enrollment limits/estimates, changing registration restrictions and requirements, editing course comments, or adding a grade submission delegate.
- Health Sciences Time Schedule Add Form – Use to add courses to the Time Schedule after the Construction deadline has passed
- Information for courses added this way WILL NOT roll over to the Time Schedule for next year.
- Please check the Time Schedule Production Calendar for dates when the Time Schedule Construction System is open for future quarters to avoid making annual repetitive updates.
For general guidance on adding NCEs to the UW Time Schedule, please view the Time Schedule User’s Guide for Non-Clinical Electives document.

Grading for NCEs MUST be Credit/ No-Credit (C/NC).
- If this is not the standard grading for your school, then separate section(s) for medical students MUST be created with C/NC grading. Medical students cannot participate in courses with A, B, C (letter grading) or 4.0 (numerical grading).
- If the department’s standard grading is not C/NC and a separate section is not created, then we cannot offer the course to medical students.
Someone (faculty or designated staff) needs to be identified as the one to submit grades for ALL sections each quarter that the course is offered. This needs to be submitted before 5pm of the day listed in the Grade Deadlines section of the UW Academic Calendar.
