Non-Clinical Elective Registration

All Seattle and distance-learning Non-Clinical Electives follow the University of Washington registration deadlines and timelines; local regional Non-Clinical Electives will follow their site’s registration deadlines and processes. This page contains information about registration deadlines, adding courses, dropping courses, among other policies. For more information or questions, contact your regional administrators or email us at somnce@uw.edu.

  • Seattle and Spokane students register directly through UW’s Course Registration portal, MyUW.
  • Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, or Idaho (WAMI) students will work with their regional administrators to register for a distance-learning Non-Clinical Elective.

Registration Information for Students

The Late Add Period dates for each term can be found on the current UW Academic Calendar. Students must pay a $20 fee and entry codes are required to be added to all courses. You must complete the Late Add Petition Form and return this to somreg@uw.edu before you can register for the course.

The Unrestricted Drop Period is from the 8th through the 14th of the quarter; a $20 will be assessed for all registration changes made during this period. Students can drop during this time period without any restrictions. A quarter withdrawal statement will appear however, no record of the dropped course will be recorded on your transcript. The Late Drop Period dates can also be found on the current UW Academic Calendar. For more information about dropping coursework in a quarter, visit the Current Quarter Drop page.

Students whose first scheduled class meeting* is after the seventh calendar day of the term and who needs to drop from that class should email the Registration Office by the Sunday following that meeting requesting a drop. Students should specify that they are requesting the drop without being charged the $20 fee.

Information in the email should include:

  1. Student name;
  2. Student number;
  3. Course SLN;
  4. Course prefix, number, and section;
  5. Date of first class

*The class must be identified in the Student Database as having an official start date after the 7th calendar day of the quarter. Classes that have a start day on the first calendar day of the quarter, but start at a later time, are not eligible.
