From McCall to Medical Mentorship: Maureen “Mo” Ferguson, MD, Leads with Heart and Purpose

Dr. Maureen “Mo” Ferguson isn’t just shaping the future of rural medicine; she’s living it. As the new University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) TRUST Director and longtime McCall TRUST Site Director, Dr. Ferguson brings passion, experience, and a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation of physicians.

With nine years of experience guiding medical students in McCall, Dr. Ferguson now steps into a broader leadership role, overseeing the TRUST program across 39 sites in Idaho. Her mission is to connect students with meaningful rural clinical experiences and help them thrive throughout their medical education journey.

“I love working with medical students,” she said. “Their excitement for medicine is invigorating.”

Dr. Ferguson completed a version of the TRUST program in McCall as a med student, and it shaped everything about her career.

“I want to help others have that same transformative experience,” she said.

Her dual role allows her to continue providing personalized guidance and support to her students while expanding her impact statewide.

For the past decade, Dr. Ferguson has also been busy practicing full-spectrum medicine, including obstetrics, inpatient, and outpatient care, at her clinic. Her practice includes her twin sister, Meg, a nurse practitioner, as part of a team-based care model.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Ferguson is all about family, adventure, and a good thrift store find. She enjoys rafting, hiking, skiing, reading, and spending time with her husband and two kids. Her hometown pride shines through in stories of Grangeville’s annual Border Days celebration, complete with egg tosses and rodeos.

Dr. Ferguson’s blend of clinical excellence, educational leadership, and personal warmth makes her a standout mentor and role model. Idaho WWAMI is fortunate to have her lead the way.
