Week of September 15, 2025

Dear Students,

Last October, you shared honest feedback via the Independent Student Analysis (ISA) survey about your experience at UWSOM. Since then, we’ve communicated our improvement work through multiple channels including my monthly emails, the weekly student newsletter, and direct communication from the Student Affairs and Curriculum offices.

Now, we want to know: Have you seen changes?

A quick, 15-min ISA follow-up survey is your chance to reflect on what’s happened since the ISA survey in October 2024. Tell us what’s working (or not) and help ensure that student input continues to shape the future of our school.  Complete the short ISA follow-up survey and you are automatically entered to win Tango gift cards, including a $500 grand prize!

When Is the Survey Open?

  •     Opens: Monday, October 6
  •     Closes: Friday, October 17

Time will be granted in class and some clerkships to complete the survey.

We are COMMITTED to listening and improving the medical education program based on your feedback.

Access to HealthCare and Counseling

We have heard from you via surveys that we have work to do in providing access to health services and health insurance.  Here is where to access information about your health care:

  •       Healthcare options: In-person and telehealth resources are available. See our resource page for details.
  •       Contacts for urgent health care questions: Reach out to your Foundations Dean (Curriculum leadership) or Dr. Heather McPhillips (Associate Dean for Curriculum)
  •       Your Student Committee on Healthcare Access (SCoHA) representative at each WWAMI site are willing to support medical students, as they are able.
  •       Health insurance: We are actively working with UW officials to create a student health insurance optional plan for medical students and other health professional degree student. Look for updates with this option being available in the 2026-2027 academic year.
  •       Counseling & wellness services: Available on every Foundations campus and by in-person and by distance, during clerkships. Direct contacts are listed on our resources page.

Thank you again for your honesty and partnership in making UWSOM stronger.

Your voice truly shapes the future of our program.
