2026 Medical Student Scholars Symposium

Did you complete a project during medical school that you are excited about? We invite all graduating medical students to submit an abstract of your scholarly work to be considered for the eighth annual Medical Student Scholars Symposium, Monday, May 18, 2026, 12:10-1:25pm. Students whose abstracts are accepted will be invited to give a 7-10 minute presentation of their work at the Symposium.

We are accepting abstracts in the following categories:

  1. Scholarship of Discovery – Research such as basic science, clinical, and health policy.
  1. Scholarship of Integration – Literature reviews that answered unknown questions.
  1. Scholarship of Application – Areas include community engagement, international outreach, and quality improvement. Projects may involve implementation of a process, sustaining an intervention, or a needs assessment.
  1. Scholarship of Teaching – Examples include design or implementation of a curriculum or research on educational methods.

Abstracts should be less than or equal to 2500 characters (excluding spaces, title, authors, mentor, mentor’s department) and contain sections for an Introduction, Methods, Results and Conclusions. To submit an abstract, please email it in PDF form to somiii@uw.edu by Friday, April 10, 2026. Abstracts will be chosen according to quality and representation of the diverse interests of our student body. We highly encourage you to apply!

AAMC Grad Questionnaire Update: Week #5

A graph showing AAMC grad questionnaire response rates across the 6 WWAMI sites: Wyoming (67%), Montana (57%), Spokane (53%), Idaho (51%), Alaska (44%), and Seattle (31%)

Thank you to the 129 of you who have helped raise our response rate to 45% this week (national: 57%)! UWSOM’s goal remains 80% this year, and the survey will stay open through early June. This survey, designed for all graduating medical students, provides national benchmarks in areas such as curriculum, student services, and the learning environment. Your feedback directly shapes how we improve the UWSOM medical education program for future students.

Your personalized survey link was sent from gq@aamc.org on March 1, with the most recent follow-up reminder on April 1. Please look for the subject line, “Your link to the 2026 AAMC Medical School Graduation Questionnaire (GQ),” or search your inbox for an email from gq@aamc.org.

For further incentive: By filling out the survey, you could win up to $50 for your participation!

Residents in Medicine Directory: Sign Up Now!

On Monday, March 30, you should have received an email from Career Advising encouraging you to sign up for the Residents in Medicine (RIM) Directory. Please consider paying it forward to UWSOM students by signing up! By signing up for the RIM Directory, current students may contact you about your residency program, specialty pathway, career choice, and/or the residency application process in general. Signing up is completely optional and your information will be stored in a secure, password-protected online directory accessible only to current UWSOM students.

This link will take you to past information for MS4s.

Have a great week!
