Medical education programs undergo a self-study process and a full survey visit every eight years. We have a vast, dedicated teaching community, and your efforts are critical as we move forward in our LCME accreditation process.
What’s happening now?
- Seven self-study committees, including the steering committee, completed an in-depth review of our data collection instrument (DCI) and provided valuable feedback. The Office of Educational Quality Improvement (EQI) has compiled this feedback into a completed self-study summary report.
- Over 180 individuals from the region, UW Medicine, School of Medicine departments and administrative leaders assisted in the process.
- Approximately 90 faculty, residents, students, and staff will begin preparing for a mock site visit on January 12–13, 2026, followed by the official LCME site visit on March 2–4, 2026.
Faculty Spotlight By the Numbers
Over 9,700 faculty are involved in teaching our medical students! Your teaching and mentorship form the foundation of our accreditation success. Based on 2024–25 data, we have:
- 246 full-time basic science faculty
- 3,173 full-time clinical faculty
- 447 part-time/volunteer basic science faculty
- 5,875 part-time/volunteer clinical faculty
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) efforts are focused on:
- Communication: enhancing communication with faculty and students
- Student support: responding to student needs, especially in financial aid and career advising
- Assessment: changing the clinical assessment system to competency and workplace-based assessments.
Stay tuned for more updates and thank you for all you do to support our students and this vital accreditation process.
Fun Fact: Did you know the UW School of Medicine covers 28% of the entire U.S. land mass? That’s thanks to our unique distributed medical education model across Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, a reflection of our deep commitment to training future physicians where they’re needed most and to fulfilling the UW Medicine mission: to improve the health of the public.
