Apply for the Underserved Pathway

Interested in health equity, advocacy and caring for underserved communities? The Underserved Pathway (UP) connects WWAMI students with mentors, physicians and peers committed to improving care for rural and urban under-resourced, marginalized and historically excluded populations. Participants build advocacy skills, explore health equity work inside and outside the clinic, and can earn recognition in their MSPE and at Hooding upon program completion. Applications are reviewed on a rolling, non-competitive basis, and students are encouraged to apply early to maximize opportunities.

Final application deadline: July 1 between your MS2 and MS3 years. Please note that students who have completed the Foundations phase will need to apply with an established mentor.

Career Advising Student Advisory Board Tip of the Month

This advice is for all MS2 students and includes first generation and BIPOC student lenses.

We hope you are enjoying the transition from Foundations to Patient Care Phase! You can always ask your “big doc” for tips on rotations, as we have done them all already. Make sure you read your clerkship’s web page and review the Clinical Encounters requirements and information. Try to keep a journal or little notes about each rotation and memorable patient care experiences. This is super helpful to look back on during application season!

If you’re getting ready to plan your elective/off-block during the Patient Care Phase, be sure to check out the Elective Selection webpage from Career Advising — it’s full of helpful resources! You can also come to Career Advising’s Office Hours via Zoom, Mondays through Wednesdays, starting at 11 AM AK,  12 PM/Noon  PT, 1PM MT: Zoom Link
