We are pleased to announce that Dr. Nicholas Phelps will be joining Alaska WWAMI as Assistant Foundations Dean beginning September 1, 2025. He will work in a hybrid capacity during September and will be fully on-site at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) starting in October.
Dr. Phelps comes to us from Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is a faculty member in the Departments of Medical Education and Population Health. He also serves as Director of Educational Program Development and Scholarship with Population Health and Co-Director of Dell Med’s longitudinal Primary Care, Family, and Community Medicine Clerkship. Since joining Dell Med in 2016, he has advanced program development, medical education scholarship and student learning experiences that emphasize primary care and population health.
An education administrator and medical educator by training, Dr. Phelps earned his PhD in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies from UT-Austin and his MA in College Student Development from St. Edward’s University. Prior to his faculty appointment, he held staff and adjunct faculty roles in student affairs, academic services and university advancement at both UT-Austin and St. Edward’s University, experiences that shaped his holistic approach to supporting students and academic programs.
“I am honored to be joining WWAMI and have been consistently impressed by the excellence of the education the program provides,” Dr. Phelps shared. “I look forward to working with the WWAMI students, faculty and staff and embracing all of the recreational and cultural opportunities Alaska has to offer.”
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Phelps to the WWAMI community and congratulating him on this new role.
