Dr. Erik Malmberg, Assistant Dean for Equity and Medical Student Engagement, will be leaving his position effective August 31, 2025. This decision has been made for personal reasons, as Dr. Malmberg pursues a new opportunity with his family.
We support him and his family and recognize the importance of his role, especially in fostering an inclusive and open environment at UWSOM. I will be working closely with the Office of Healthcare Equity (OHCE), Dr. Bessie Young, Vice Dean for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, and Dr. Suzanne Allen, Vice Dean for Academic, Rural, and Regional Affairs, to continue supporting our students.
I would like to thank Jyl Shaffer, Director of Medical Student Equity Services, for working diligently to ensure there are no service disruptions to our incredibly diverse student body. Jyl will be the student contact for all equity-related matters, and she can be reached at jrs66@uw.edu. She will work directly with me to ensure that all of your needs are met.
We are committed to listening to our students and faculty throughout this transition. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
