A registration hold is placed on a student’s record when an enrollment requirement has not been met, and it prevents registration until the issue is resolved. Unresolved holds may result in inability to attend class, delays in course access, additional university fees, and delays in financial aid disbursement, so make sure to stay in compliance with all administrative and financial requirements.
Types of holds include:
- Financial: Unpaid university charges such as overdue tuition or housing or food service balance owed.
- SOM Compliance: All matriculated medical students – including those enrolled in concurrent degree programs, on an approved expansion of the medical education program, and those on a leave of absence – must achieve and maintain compliance with the School of Medicine’s Compliance Requirements Policy, procedures, and guidelines through the entirety of their tenure in the medical school program. Examples of non-compliance which may result in a hold include expired BLS, N95 Respirator Fit, and Criminal Background Check.
- Health Sciences Immunization Program (HSIP): Typically related to immunization requirements (e.g., flu shot).
- UW Administrative: Includes incomplete UW requirement (e.g., Husky Prevention & Response (Title IX) student course).
- Returning Student: Only for students who have not attended UW for two or more consecutive quarters (excluding summer quarter).
To check for and clear a hold:
- Log in to MyUW
- Check the Notices section to see which unit has placed the hold.
- Contact the appropriate office for questions and next steps (contact information should be supplied in the notice).
