UW Medicine is pleased to be the title sponsor of the Seattle Marathon. Since 2007, UW Medicine team members have volunteered at the marathon. Led by Eric Chen, MD, a sports medicine physician at Harborview Medical Center and the new Seattle Marathon medical director, medical volunteer teams manage stations along the course and at the finish line.
When are the volunteer shifts?
Volunteers can sign up for all-day, morning or afternoon shifts on Sunday, Nov. 29 (Thanksgiving weekend). The marathon course will start at the Seattle Center and end at Waterfront Pier 66.
Who can volunteer?
Medical team members include physicians, nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists, medical assistants and technicians, as well as students in these fields and administrative staff. Medical volunteers help handle routine and complex medical ailments common to endurance events.
