Applications are open for the SAEMF National Research Scholars Program, a mentored research opportunity for medical students interested in emergency care research and careers as emergency medicine clinician-scientists.
Selected scholars will spend 12 consecutive months conducting full-time research at a U.S. institution outside their home medical school, working alongside leading emergency medicine investigators.
Award Support
Each scholar will receive:
- $55,000 stipend for the research year
- Up to $10,000 in additional support for eligible travel, moving expenses, health insurance, and attendance at two SAEM Annual Meetings
- Complimentary SAEM student membership
- Complimentary student registration for the SAEM Annual Meeting
Who Should Apply?
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited U.S. medical school and have the recommendation of an emergency medicine faculty sponsor. Students will typically have completed their second or third year before beginning the program. Students from institutions without an EM department or research program are encouraged to apply and may identify a faculty sponsor from another institution. Prior research experience is not required.
Research Opportunities
Scholars may pursue basic, translational, clinical, or health systems research related to emergency care. Applicants do not need to have a mentor or fully developed research project at the time of application. Selected scholars will receive guidance in identifying an appropriate mentor, research environment, and project.
Applications are open and are due January 6, 2027! For more information about the program, important dates and deadlines, and application requirements, visit our website.
