This week, we’re highlighting academic learning services and tutoring as part of our ongoing series on the 2026 AAMC Graduation Questionnaire (GQ) results. Students’ responses show steady gains in satisfaction with both areas over the past three years!
As a reminder, the AAMC Graduation Questionnaire (GQ) is administered annually to graduating medical students.
Highlights from the results:
- Academic learning services: Satisfaction increased from 73% in 2024 to 77% in 2026, narrowing the gap with the national average of 79%.
- Tutoring: Satisfaction rose from 79% in 2024 to 86% in 2026, exceeding the national average in all three years.
- Continued progress: Both areas improved each year, with tutoring reaching 7% above the national average in 2026.

To sustain this momentum, the Academic Advising Team is currently working on the following initiatives:
- Metacognition Timeline: Academic Support has implemented a shared Metacognition Timeline curriculum with intentional, timely learning strategies and skills to help students develop as self-regulated learners.
- Community & Early Support: Across WWAMI, teams are developing community-building and support programs—including a new academic support program in Spokane, Montana Strong, Wyoming Strong, Seattle Student Support Pathway, and Idaho Collaborative: Supporting Success—to foster connection and belonging while providing early access to resources, support, and intervention during the Foundations Phase.
- Step 1 Summer Bootcamps: Alaska and Montana offered optional Step 1 Summer Bootcamps between the MS1 and MS2 years to help students build readiness for dedicated Step 1 preparation during the winter.
- Post-Exam Review: Alaska and Wyoming implemented a post-exam missed-question rubric to help faculty and students identify learning gaps and guide targeted support.
These encouraging trends offer much to celebrate while highlighting opportunities for continued improvement. We will continue to monitor student feedback and satisfaction trends to help inform efforts to strengthen academic support.
