Description – Ten week in person summer program aimed to expand medical student experience on the foundations of vascular surgery research and clinical care

Vascular Surgery Summer Scholars Program Graduation: August 2027
History – The inaugural class of Vascular Surgery Summer Scholars completed the program in August 2022 with great success. Their efforts have resulted in presentations at multiple national meetings in Vancouver, Hawaii, Miami, and Seattle and multiple published papers.
Objectives
- Research – to develop a foundation in the essentials of high quality vascular surgery research
- All students will be assigned a project under the mentorship of a vascular surgery faculty member with a goal of abstract creation at the completion of the summer experience
- Students will meet with their faculty mentor weekly on project progression
- Clinical Experience – students will be integrated into the busy clinical vascular surgery services which may include any of the following
- Vascular Surgery Department Conference (1 hour): Wednesday at 7am
- Vascular Surgery Resident and Fellow Education Session (1 hour): Wednesday at 8am
- Vascular Surgery Case Conference (Optional)
- HMC Pre-operative Conference (1 hour): Friday 9am
- UWMC Pre-operative Conference (1 hour): Thursday 4pm
- UWMC Aortic Conference (1 hour): Thursday 5pm
- Shadowing with vascular faculty and residents, as possible
- Students will be assigned OR days during their summer block
- Students will be assigned half day of clinic sessions (AM or PM) during their block

- Integrations into the Vascular Surgery Team
- Summer Scholars will integrated into the department
- Summer Scholars may be paired with a resident mentor pending schedule availability

2027 Application – Please provide answers to the following questions (1 page maximum)
- Provide a brief explanation of your interest in the program and future career goals (500 words or less)
- Describe your previous statistical experience including any analytical programing (eg Stata, SPSS, R, or any other programing) and if you have experience with coding in that program. Please note this is not required, but assists with appropriate project assignment.
*The program is only available in-person in Seattle, WA.
