University of Washington School of Medicine students are afforded the increasingly rare opportunity to have an experiential summer experience between the first and second year of medical school as part of their pre-clerkship experiences. For two months, Wyoming WWAMI students can engage in research, pursue a global health experience, or experience a clinical rotation in a rural community in the WWAMI region.
Students completing a clinical rotation participate in the Rural Underserved Opportunities Program (RUOP) where they spend 4 weeks working with a community preceptor in a rural outpatient setting while working on a community engagement project.
Wyoming WWAMI leadership members Dr. Rob Monger, Dr. John Willford, and Dr. Todd Guth have been visiting students at their RUOP sites throughout July and August. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the Wyoming WWAMI team to meet hospital leadership throughout the state and see the exciting things our students are doing in Wyoming communities.
