After years of dedication to patient care and medical education, Montana WWAMI fourth-year student Maddy Reichelt matched into psychiatry at Johns Hopkins.
Originally from Big Sandy, Montana, Maddy was drawn to psychiatry for the very things that make it unique within medicine — time, connection, and story.
“Psychiatry is everything I love about medicine and medical education,” she said. “The protected time spent with patients, the privilege of learning their stories, and the exceptional mentorship I received have all guided me to this specialty and continue to shape the provider and teacher I hope to become.”
For Maddy, the most rewarding part of psychiatry is the process of truly understanding patients — who they are, what they’ve experienced, and how those experiences shape their health.
“Piecing this together with patients and helping them find ways to move forward is incredibly rewarding and makes me excited for what the future of my career holds.”
Maddy’s path to medicine has been driven by a deep curiosity and care for others — values that continue to guide her work and future goals in both patient care and medical education. Congratulations, Maddy!
