Four Idaho WWAMI physicians earned University of Washington Department of Medicine awards this summer for their outstanding contributions to medical education, mentorship and patient care. Their achievements reflect the exceptional physician educators and leaders who are helping train the next generation of doctors across Idaho and the WWAMI region.
Dr. Michael Krug received the 2026 Richard M. Tucker WWAMI Excellence in Teaching Award, which honors physicians across the WWAMI region who demonstrate exceptional enthusiasm and dedication to teaching medical students. He’s a physician at the Boise VA Medical Center and the associate program director of the UW Boise Internal Medicine Residency Program. He believes getting to know patients is essential to developing the best treatment plan for each person.
Dr. Casi Wyatt received the 2026 Tina Juul-Dam Teacher of the Year Award, which recognizes educators who exemplify compassionate, patient-centered care while inspiring learners through excellence in teaching, integrity and professionalism. She is an infectious disease specialist with more than 20 years of experience. Dr. Wyatt is affiliated with St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center and St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center. The award honors the legacy of the late Dr. Tina Juul-Dam, a beloved clinician and educator.
Dr. Mariah Lapinski was honored with the 2026 Hindson Resident of the Year Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership, clinical excellence and dedication to teaching. Dr. Lapinski is the chief resident at the Boise Internal Medicine Residency Program. The award celebrates physicians who enrich both patient care and the educational experience of fellow learners.
Dr. Jared Joffer received the 2026 C. Scott Smith Community Teacher of the Year Award, which honors community-based physicians who demonstrate excellence in clinical teaching and a commitment to evidence-based medicine. Dr. Joffer specializes in internal medicine at Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise. He focuses on the comprehensive care of adult patients with complex medical conditions. The award is named for longtime Boise physician and educator Dr. C. Scott Smith.
