Dr. Jason Heiner is a Clinical Assistant Professor within the University of Washington Department of Emergency Medicine. His residency was completed while with the U.S. Army at Madigan Army Medical Center, which, at that time, operated a collaborative emergency training program with the University of Washington. He served as a resident Editorial Fellow for the Annals of Emergency Medicine, and continues serving as a journal editor and mentor to today’s Editorial Fellows. After active-duty service, Dr. Heiner returned to WA during the establishment of the UW’s independent emergency medicine residency program and later helped build the program’s first emergency rural and critical access clinical rotation in Friday Harbor, WA. He practices in a variety of areas of emergency medicine. Influenced by his rural childhood community, military medicine experiences, and a passion for education, he enjoys delivering medical care in settings including academic and urban, community based, rural and critical access, international, and critical care MedEvac flight medicine.
His favorite pastimes include art, long distance triathlons, and grappling. Since moving back to his hometown, Dr. Heiner has been grateful for opportunities to coach youth sports, serve as a community medical volunteer, spending time with his family, and meandering on his small farm.
