The impact of a great teacher can last a lifetime. Through his mentorship, encouragement and commitment to medical education, Dr. Justin Woodlief has helped Idaho WWAMI students build the skills and confidence needed to grow into future physicians, earning him an Idaho WWAMI Excellence in Teaching Award.
Through his teaching and patient-centered care, Dr. Woodlief has helped medical students develop the skills needed to succeed in medicine.
“I’m learning as much from the students as they are from me, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their education,” he said.
A board-certified internal medicine physician at St. Luke’s Clinic in Meridian, Dr. Woodlief is known for creating meaningful learning experiences that challenge students to grow as clinicians while strengthening their clinical judgment and independence. His guidance helps students develop the confidence and clinical judgment needed to thrive in medicine.
Third-year WWAMI student Abhinav Janappareddi nominated Dr. Woodlief for the award, describing him as one of the most influential physicians
encountered during medical school. According to Janappareddi, Dr. Woodlief consistently encouraged critical thinking, welcoming new challenges and helped students build confidence as future physicians.
“As a third-year medical student, confidence is everything. Dr. Woodlief pushed me to reach a different level than what I was operating at,” he added. “He challenged me but at the same time found a great balance in teaching me. He allowed me to see as many patients as I’d like to see.”
Janappareddi also praised Dr. Woodlief’s commitment to teaching and mentorship, noting that he was exceptionally knowledgeable and continually motivated students to succeed throughout their clerkship experiences.
By fostering curiosity, independence and confidence in the clinical setting, Dr. Woodlief leaves a lasting impression on the students he teaches. His dedication to mentoring future physicians exemplifies the spirit of the Idaho WWAMI Excellence in Teaching Award.
