WWAMI Regional Faculty Resources

Welcome! This guide is designed to help connect University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) faculty (or those in the process of applying for faculty appointments) throughout the WWAMI region with the wide variety of resources available to them.

For those interested in applying for a faculty appointment, please visit the WWAMI Faculty Appointments page.

For those who already have a faculty appointment, please explore the sections below. The “Onboarding” and “Shared UWSOM Resources” tabs contain general resources applicable to all faculty members, while the regional tabs contain more specific resources for faculty practicing throughout the WWAMI region.

Setting Up Your UW NetID

One of the first things faculty will need to do after their appointment is finalized (and an Employee Identification number (EID) has been assigned) is set up a UW NetID. This will serve as an institutional email address and provide the necessary credentials to log-in to various resources and portals. Setting Up Your UW Email

You have two options for email: 1) forward your UW email to a non-UW email system, or 2) use the email services offered through the UW, UW Exchange Online (Outlook – *Preferred*) or UW Gmail. Information and instructions can be found at the following link: UW Email

Health Sciences Library Access

Once appointed, and a UW NetID & password has been established, WWAMI faculty have access to the Health Sciences Library. Information and access can be found at the following link: Health Sciences Library webpage

The Health Sciences Library has excellent point of care tools—many of which have mobile apps available for download. It provides high quality access to biomedical information, is easy to use and has a vast number of free licensed resources, only a small sample of which are outlined here.

The Health Sciences Library resource allows faculty to:

  • Search for articles with PubMed.
  • UpToDate and DynaMedex are available for quick reference relating to diagnosis & therapy.
  • Look up drug-drug interactions with Micromedex.
  • Select favorites from Books & Journals: New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA and Lancet, to name a few.
  • Find evidence with access to the Cochrane Library.
  • Access patient education materials, chronic pain resources, and National Library of Medicine resources.

Clinicians may find the “Care Provider Toolkit” most useful. From the main menu, hover over “Resources” then click the “Toolkits” tab. From there, click “Care Provider.” That will take you to the Care Provider Tool Kit page.

UW Libraries Access

WWAMI faculty also have access to the vast wealth of information, support, programs and activities offered through UW Libraries, explore more on the UW Libraries website.

Discounts for UWSOM Faculty & Staff

UWSOM faculty and staff are eligible for a number of discounts, memberships and other deals. While many of these are most relevant to those based in Seattle, there are also nationwide discounts available on products and services spanning travel, fitness, software access, office supplies and more.

Assessment/Evaluation

Competency Mapping and Programmatic Assessment System (COMPASS) is UWSOM’s assessment framework that supports the School’s transition to a Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) model. Montana TRUST

Annual MT WWAMI Faculty Meetings

  • Montana WWAMI hosts three annual state-wide events for faculty: Two one-day retreats, spring and fall (in Bozeman). The spring retreat is combined with the larger annual MT WWAMI Faculty Development Conference, which takes place over a weekend in the spring (locations vary).
  • Montana hosts the annual WWAMI region-wide TRUST faculty forum meeting each spring.
  • Montana Track sites host faculty-focused events, bringing in guest speakers, particularly from the UWSOM Department of Medicine and Pediatrics.
