After years of hands-on experience and a deep commitment to serving others, Montana WWAMI fourth-year student Brayden Crowley matched into Emergency Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center.
Originally from Roundup, Montana, Brayden found his path to emergency medicine early — working as an ER tech in his hometown’s critical access hospital. Even as he kept an open mind during medical school, no other specialty felt quite like home. For Brayden, emergency medicine is grounded in service.
“Emergency medicine physicians have the unique responsibility of providing care to truly the most underserved and disenfranchised individuals in our communities,” he shared. “I see emergency medicine as a way for me to build a life rooted in service and advocacy for my patients.”
His journey into medicine was shaped by a powerful moment in high school, witnessing the relationship between his great grandfather and his oncologist during his final months battling cancer — an experience that left a lasting impression on the kind of physician he hoped to become.
As a TRUST student, Brayden gained firsthand experience in rural healthcare and developed a deep appreciation for the challenges rural physicians face. Spending significant time in the emergency department during his TRUST training helped solidify his decision to pursue emergency medicine. Looking ahead, Brayden is keeping an open mind during residency but hopes to return to Montana to practice in a rural, critical access hospital — continuing to serve communities like the one that raised him.
Congratulations, Brayden! For more photos, visit Montana WWAMI’s Instagram.
