UWSOM Students Named to 2025 Husky 100

Caleb Allred 

Caleb has led efforts to improve healthcare access for patients with language barriers, working since 2022 with Seattle Children’s Hospital to streamline scheduling and support shared decision-making in pediatric ENT care. Originally from Rexburg, Idaho, he’s also contributed to global health projects in Ecuador and Chile, served as a Spanish medical interpreter and published multiple peer-reviewed studies—all before graduation. This summer, Caleb heads to the University of Michigan to begin his residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, with plans to continue research in health systems and medical education. 

Ryan Carlson  

After 10 years at UW—earning a B.S. in Neurobiology & Biochemistry, a Ph.D. in Genome Sciences, and soon an M.D.—Ryan is recognized for his leadership, discovery, and impact. His work spans gene discovery for hearing loss, improving cochlear implant outcomes and global outreach to families with hereditary deafness. Now pursuing a career as a surgeon-scientist in otolaryngology, Ryan is committed to bridging research and clinical care, mentoring future physicians, and expanding global access to genetic therapies for hearing loss. 

Patrick Hewes

Originally from Colville, WA, Patrick overcame the challenges of growing up homeless and in youth services, experiences that deeply shaped his commitment to serving others. Through his medical studies, he found a supportive community that empowered him to turn adversity into action—advocating for reduced financial barriers in higher education and advancing protections for vulnerable youth. His work reflects a strong dedication to equity, early childhood development and healthcare access for underserved communities.
