Basic Needs Resources Guide for UWSOM Students
This page is still under development and not complete or finished.
What are Basic Needs?
Graduate and Professional students may at times need support in maintaining basic needs, such as food, housing, and transportation. Some may be parents and need support while completing studies and juggling care for children. Others may need to find support or community related to wellness, safety, or spiritual needs.
What is the Basic Needs Resources Guide?
The Medical Student Equity Services Team has collated resources and information across the WWAMI to help direct medical students to services that may support them in meeting their Basic Needs. This information does not replace services already available on campus. Instead, it is meant to help our medical students locate services and resources that may be available yet spread out among various sites and locations.
Know of Other Resources?
If you or your office or organization knows of a resource that you believe might be helpful for meeting the Basic Needs of our medical students, please fill out this form (create form that includes resource, justification, and link)

Note: The City of Seattle administers a Multifamily Tax Exemption (MFTE) affordable housing program. This program allows full-time students receiving need-based funding from their FAFSA application to apply. This eligibility requirement often prevents master’s and PhD level students from applying, However, students who participate in a Federal or State Work Study program are eligible to apply. Eligible students looking for MFTE apartments can search for vacant units with the MFTE key word and then apply directly with the property manager or leasing agent for that apartment.
