Students host “Acing Anki” session on Sept. 5

MS2s Kunal Gupta and Sam Fredman run a series called “How to Med School,” with the Family Medicine Interest Group. The annual “Acing Anki” session will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at 5 p.m. AK, 6 p.m. PT, 7 pm. MT. MS2 Anki experts will be available in breakout rooms to troubleshoot Anki with you or to discuss the strategies they used for Anki.

The students recommend watching the recording of the 2022 session. This video reviews the how and why to using Anki & talks about UWSoM specific addons and strategies. You will get more out of the live session if you have a basic understanding first.

RSVP here for the Zoom link.

Please comply with the VA form requirement by Sept. 6, 2024

Please complete the UWSOM Consent and Release of Information – Veteran’s Affairs Health System (VA)   regarding your eligibility to participate in clinical training at the Veteran’s Affairs Health System (VA). This is a one-time compliance item that is required of all students. The deadline is Friday, Sept. 6, 2024.

Students may decline to consent, but they will still need to submit a response via the form.

Please see this VA FAQ or visit the Compliance Website for more information.

Notes:

  • To be considered for a rotation at the VA, UWSOM will need to release to the VA your current gender and country of citizenship. Again, students can decline consent and will still be compliant with the requirement.
  • In addition to the above information, the VA also needs UWSOM to verify your Selective Service status. To be eligible for a clerkship at the VA, all male students need to be registered with the Selective Service. Visit https://www.sss.gov/register/ to register for the Selective Service or to check your status.

Peer to Peer: Tip of the Month from Career Advising

You will soon get tons of emails about extracurriculars. This may seem overwhelming during FMR but think big picture about what might interest you career-wise. If you can, try to take on a leadership position for an interest group, a volunteer project, or join a committee. Make sure you don’t overcommit, but picking one or two extracurriculars this year to pour into is a fantastic way to kick off med school!

Pathway applications will also open this fall and can be very helpful in learning how to better serve minoritized and underserved communities. Learn more about Pathways here.
