The Spring survey response rate is now 88 percent. Keep going!

A message from Sara Kim, PhD, research professor, surgery, and associate dean for Educational Quality Improvement:

Thank you to everyone who helped raise the Spring survey response rate from 83% to 88%!   (See the regional breakdown graph below).

A huge accolade to Montana students for reaching 100% this week!  Congratulations and thank you!  Alaska lifted their response rate to 75% – a 17% increase in a week. Seattle students made history by exceeding the 90% mark at 92% (+5%). We have rarely seen this level of student engagement from a large class! Wyoming (90%), Spokane (92%) and Idaho (75%) rates remain unchanged.

Ordinarily, we would have closed the survey with such high response rates. To minimize survey fatigue, the survey includes subset items from a pool of 75 questions that are core to evaluating the medical education program. A lower than 90% response rate, especially in small size cohorts, makes it difficult to establish a solid baseline. We will keep the survey open in the hope that more students can complete the survey. And yes, we will also increase the number of gift cards available for raffle!

Please see the incentive breakdown by campus in the table below. You can choose to use your gift card with different vendors such as Amazon, Apple, Uber Eats, and many other stores, restaurants and movie theatres!

Thank you everyone!

Campus # of Gift Cards ($10) if Campus Response Rates Reach 60% Additional # of Gift Cards ($10) if Campus Response Rates Reach 85% If Campus Response Rates Reach 100%
Seattle 15 10 Any unused gift cards will be raffled to the campus cohort(s) reaching 100%
Spokane 9 6
Wyoming 3 2
Alaska 3 2
Montana 5 3
Idaho 6 4

Please Note: According to UW policy, student employees (e.g., tutors, research assistants, hourly workers, etc.) cannot receive a gift card. If you win the raffle as a student employee, we will send alternative items of $10 value from Amazon.

Please read if you require disability accommodations at clerkship locations

Note: We will be publishing this announcement every week through July 25.

Students who require clerkship location accommodations to manage their personal medical conditions/disabilities must apply for and be approved by the office prior to July 26, 2024. It can take 2-5 weeks, sometimes longer, to be approved for accommodation with DRS, so start the process as soon as possible (and no later than July 12).  Please note that “maintaining health insurance coverage” does not qualify as a disability.

  • If you are not currently registered with DRS: Fill out a “new student application” and submit your documentation via the DRS services website. After your application (including medical documentation) is submitted, you will be scheduled for an access planning meeting with a DRS access coordinator.
  • If you are already receiving accommodation through DRS: Please schedule an appointment with Kowan Russell, uwdrs@uw.edu, if you want to discuss clerkship locations.

Additional information about requesting accommodation is outlined on the UW DRS “Getting Started” website.

Peer to Peer: Tip of the Month from Career Advising

Congratulations on finishing MS1! Update your Activity Tracker to track your involvement with various organizations. It is used for service awards and helps with organization when building your CV. Trust me, waiting until MS4 to input all your work can be exhausting.

If you can work it into your schedule this summer, try to do a few UWorld or AMBOSS questions for Step 1 – a little each day will help once dedicated comes around!
