Before you Begin / Preparing for WRITE
Below is a list of what students should do before arriving at their WRITE site, and what to expect when you arrive.
Eight Weeks Before
- Contact your WRITE site administrator to initiate the credentialing/onboarding process and complete the paperwork as required by the clinic. Contact the WRITE Educator if you are not sure who your WRITE site administrator is.
Five Weeks Before
- Familiarize yourself with the WRITE Canvas Page (UW net ID is required)
- Upload the completed WRITE Student Summary Sheet to Canvas.
- Mark your shelf exam days on your calendar
- Review the detailed site description, site requirements, required forms, housing information, and transportation requirements that can be found on the WRITE website
- Get credentialing requirements and/or paperwork submitted to the appropriate person asap.
- If you have any questions, reach out to the WRITE Educator
Four Weeks Before
- Confirm with the Site Director or Site Coordinator/Administrator where to get keys for housing and where to go on your first day of clerkship.
- Ask your Site Coordinator about any other site-specific paperwork needed prior to your clerkship as well as any electronic medical record (EMR) onboarding that will need to be completed. Completion of this paperwork is vital to ensure access to all administrative programs on your first day.
- Familiarize yourself with the WRITE clerkship syllabus including the curricular areas, your required tasks, the readings links, and evaluation policies, including workplace-based assessments. If you have questions reach out to the WRITE Educator.
One Week Before
- Attend WRITE Orientation hosted by the Office of Rural Programs
- Review absence policy and duty hours
- Prepare for lodging, transportation, appropriate weather, and clinical attire
Orientation
Your WRITE clerkship orientation will be completed prior to arriving at your site. You will need to participate in this Zoom webinar which will review the clerkship website, policies, goals, objectives, and requirements for successful completion. The date, time, and Zoom link will be emailed to you.
Your site will also provide a site-specific orientation and will include the following:
- Your clerkship schedule, including call duties
- Key contact information for site faculty and staff
- A safety briefing and a tour of the clinical facilities
- Passwords for electronic medical record systems and orientation to the system if needed
