Evaluation
Students will be evaluated on the following components:

2. Workplace Based Assessments (WBA)
Workplace based assessments are brief formative assessments completed by a preceptor after a clinical encounter that rate the student on the level of enstrustment for that specific encounter.
The level of enstrustment is rated on the Modified Ottawa scale which asks the preceptor “In supervising this student, how much did you participate in this task?”
Preceptors respond on a four-point scale:
- I did it
- I talked them through it
- I directed them from time to time
- I was available just in case
Students will need WBAs and all nine WRITE EPAs (listed below) for each of the 4 patient populations seen in WRITE.
- pediatrics
- adults
- behavioral/mental health
- women’s health
For MEDLIC 1, students will need to submit WBA for at least 2 of the 4 patient populations.
Upon conclusion of MEDLIC 2, students will need to have submitted WBAs for all 4 patient populations. WBAs are cumulative across MEDLIC 1 and MEDLIC 2.
Ranked grading will be determined by the level of entrustment at student achieves for the patient populations within the RIME framework. Each WRITE EPA maps to a level in the RIME framework. See Canvas for further details about processes and policies for student entrustment.

This framework tracks student development.
Workplace based assessments will be generated by students for completion by their preceptors. For detailed instructions on how to do this, please see Canvas. Students will be able to track their progress in Elentra. In addition, the WRITE Educational Specialist will monitor student progress in the WBAs and provide written updates via email to students every 2 weeks.
3. Mid-clerkship Evaluations
These are required and due at week 6 for MEDLIC 1 and week 6 for MEDLIC 2. Due dates are included in the weekly communication email and noted on the WRITE Student Calendar. Evaluation comments will be collected via the form linked on the WRITE Canvas Page.
4. Final Shelf Exams
MEDLIC 1
- Family Medicine: Week 6 (3rd percentile is passing)
- Pediatrics: Week 12 (1st percentile if not completed inpatient, 3rd percentile if completed inpatient)
MEDLIC 2
- Psychiatry: Week 6 (1st percentile if not completed inpatient, 3rd percentile if completed inpatient)
- Ob/Gyn: Week 9 (1st percentile if not completed inpatient, 3rd percentile if completed inpatient)
Grading
Students will receive three grades for their WRITE Clerkship:
1. Ranked Grade based on Level for EPAs
WRITE uses the RIME (Reporter/Interpreter/Manager/Enhanced Communicator) format to determine ranked grade performance based on level of enstrustment. Each WRITE EPA maps to a level in the RIME framework. See Canvas for further details about processes and policies for student entrustment.

2. Final Exam Grade
Passing percentiles are described below for MEDLIC 1 and 2. There are different cut-off points depending on if a student has completed the inpatient components of pediatrics, psychiatry, or obstetrics-gynecology.
MEDLIC 1
- Family Medicine: Final exam is taken at week 6 (3rd percentile is passing)
- Pediatrics: Final exam is taken at week 12 (1st percentile if not completed inpatient, 3rd percentile if completed inpatient)
MEDLIC 2
- Psychiatry: Final exam is taken at week 6 (1st percentile if not completed inpatient, 3rd percentile if completed inpatient)
- Ob/Gyn: Final exam is taken at week 9 (1st percentile if not completed inpatient, 3rd percentile if completed inpatient)
3. Final Grade
Upon completion of the WRITE I and II (MEDLIC 601 and MEDLIC 602) Clerkship, you can view your final evaluation form on E*Value by four weeks after the end WRITE I and WRITE II. Once your final grade has been assigned, you will receive an email notification and a link to view it. Please note that because you will be able to view and print your final evaluations online, we will not be mailing hard copies.
EPA Entrustment Advisory Committee
The WRITE Entrustment Advisory Committee is comprised of faculty from internal medicine, family medicine, psychiatry, pediatrics, and Ob/Gyn. It also includes key UWSOM staff and administrators. The committee will meet twice a quarter to discuss student entrustment and ensure their assessment is robust for all patient populations. Upon the conclusion of the quarter, the committee will advise on the level on entrustment for each EPA and the basis of that entrustment. They will take into consideration the trajectory and final level of entrustment for the WBA.
