Published on

Dear UW School of Medicine students,

The UW School of Medicine is excited to share with you the opportunity to apply for the UWSOM Anti-Racism Fellowship. Applications are due by 4 p.m. AK, 5 p.m. PT, 6 p.m. MT, on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023.

Overview: The UWSOM Medical Student Education Program Anti-Racism Fellowship Program was developed in response to the social health justice movement catalyzed by the murder of George Floyd and anti-Black and structural racism evident in medicine. As a sign of UW’s commitment to becoming an anti-racist institution, the Fellowship will support three medical students each year to engage in anti-racism work over the course of an academic year.

Medical students will submit a proposal as part of the application process for the fellowship along with a nomination from a faculty member or mentor. The fellowship program will be directed by the Anti-Racism Fellowship Selection and Advisory Committee located in the Office of Healthcare Equity (OCHE), and each fellow will be assigned a faculty mentor to help with completing the proposed work during the academic year.

Completed projects will be presented at an annual anti-racism and equity symposium held by OHCE.

Fellowship Length: 12 months.

Fellowship Selection: Applicants will complete an application describing their background, previous work and current interest in anti-Black racism or other anti-racism work, a proposal for a project to be completed during an academic year, and a proposed mentor for the project.
