UW Medicine’s Huddle educates the community about QMED

Published on

The Huddle, a news site that shares information about UW Medicine people and places, profiled the student group QMED in a post titled, “QMED Builds Community for Queer Medical Students.

The article begins, “Community and mentorship are crucial for medical students to help them feel supported and build their careers — even more so for students whose identities are often marginalized or underrepresented. For LGBTQ+ students, this is where a student organization called Queer Medical Student Affinity Group, aka QMED, comes in.”

UW Medicine writer McKenna Princing spoke with two medical students, as well as faculty MB Velasquez, M.D., faculty advisor for QMED and clinical assistant professor in the UWSOM Department of Family Medicine, and Rob Monger, M.D., FACP, assistant clinical dean for Wyoming WWAMI.
