Spokane Foundations introduce new Block Faculty

Published on

Spokane Foundations would like to introduce two Block Faculty, Kelvin Hsu, M.D., left, and Matt Ray, M.D., right.  Both physicians have extensive experience in education.

Dr. Hsu is a nephrologist at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Dr. Ray is a nephrologist with MultiCare Rockwood Clinics.

Meet Kelvin Hsu: I am originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I graduated with a medical degree from University of Western Ontario in 2003 and completed my fellowship training in Nephrology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2009. I’m currently working as nephrologist with Providence. My prior teaching/education activities:

– Program director of a Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program from 2012-2013 for St. Alexius Medical Center/University of North Dakota, Bismarck ND. It was a program that I started for the hospital and University of North Dakota and geared primarily for family physicians who desire extra clinical training in the hospital setting in preparation for a hospitalist career.

– Full-time faculty for the Memorial Family Practice Program, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana, from 2013 to 2015

– I continue to teach residents and students who rotate through the nephrology service at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

My passions are travelling with my wife and son, capturing our time together through videography and photography. I love playing the piano, and I volunteer as a lounge pianist at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Meet Matt Ray: I am originally from North Carolina, although my family moved around during my childhood. I spent time in all corners of the country, eventually landing in Southern Idaho. I attended college in New Jersey, graduate school in New York City, and medical school in Pennsylvania to round out my Northeast stint, and made my way back West for residency here, which led to my love of Spokane.

I then went to fellowship in Denver before returning for a clinical practice in Spokane. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, sailing, biking, climbing, wrenching on cars, and working around my hobby farm. I am passionate about teaching all levels of learners and gravitate toward a physiologic-based approach to understanding. I am very excited to join the Faculty.
