Financial Aid updates: debt relief and our office’s availability

Debt Relief

The Biden-Harris Administration’s Student Debt Relief Plan was passed last week. The pause on interest and payments on Federal Direct Student Loans has been extended through Dec. 31, 2022.  Information on loan debt cancellation for up to $10,000 ($20,000 for Pell grant recipients) for student’s meeting certain income limits can be found here.

Financial Aid office’s availability update

This is the Zoom link for SOM Financial Aid Zoom Drop In Hours

When:

  • Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 4 to 5 p.m. AK. 5 to 6 p.m. PT, 6 to 7 p.m. MT
  • Thursdays: 10 to 11 a.m. AK, 11 a.m. to noon, PT, noon to 1 p.m. MT 

These hours don’t include holidays, such as Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 5.

As of Sept. 1, 2022, UWSOM Financial Aid has one staff person, Diane Noecker. So please be patient. UW is recruiting for more staff.
