Washington TRUST
The Washington State TRUST (Targeted Rural Underserved Track) is an application-based program that operates out of two Foundations campuses: Gonzaga University in Spokane and University of Washington in Seattle. Collectively, both Eastern and Western Washington TRUST programs place passionate students in rural and small-city communities across the state, where they can develop strong connections to faculty preceptors and learn the nuance of rural underserved care.
After completing the TRUST admission process and being accepted into either the Eastern or Western Washington TRUST program, students are matched to a community in the designated region for which they attend their Foundations Phase (first 18 months of medical school). There, students will benefit from the expertise of physician preceptors who mentor them over the course of their medical school career.
The goal of the Washington State TRUST program is to grow the physician ecosystem for rural and small-city communities across our state, improving workforce needs and addressing gaps in care that exist in under-resourced communities.
How Do I Apply?
Qualified University of Washington WWAMI applicants will have the opportunity to apply to the Washington TRUST program within their secondary application materials.
The secondary application is available only through the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM).
Application Process
Deadline: Washington TRUST applicants must submit all application materials, as with all University of Washington School of Medicine applicants, to the UWSOM Admissions Office by December 1st. Materials received after this date will not be considered.
TRUST Interviews: Interviews usually occur in January to February. Please pay close attention to the information provided by UWSOM admissions once you have been selected for an interview.
Offers of Admission: Washington TRUST Scholars will be notified of their admission status no later than one week after the TRUST interview. Applicants not accepted for the TRUST program may be considered for regular admission to the Washington WWAMI program.
Continuity Community Assignments
Students are assigned a TRUST continuity community based on their Foundations Phase campus selection. For example, a Seattle Foundations student will not be assigned Ellensburg as a continuity community placement. Whilst student preferences will be considered, the TRUST Selection Committee will make the final decision on continuity community site assignments in Eastern and Western Washington respectively.
